This guide provides answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about ACH reversals. Please review the information below, and contact us if you have any additional questions.
What is an ACH reversal?
An ACH reversal occurs when a bank rejects or reverses an ACH debit or credit transaction after it’s been submitted. This means the funds did not successfully transfer, and the transaction was returned to the sender.
Why do ACH transfers get reversed?
There are several common reasons for ACH reversals:
- The debit transaction was not authorized by the bank.
- The transaction was not whitelisted or approved for Mesh as an originator.
- The debit amount exceeded the limit set by the bank.
- The bank account details were entered incorrectly.
- There were insufficient funds or a temporary hold on the bank account.
What does “R29 – Not Authorized” mean?
The “R29” return code indicates that the bank did not authorize Mesh to debit your account. This can happen if Mesh isn’t whitelisted in your bank’s system, or if the transaction amount exceeds your authorized limit.
What happens when a reversal occurs?
When a reversal occurs the following happens:
- The deposit is reversed — funds will not be transferred to Mesh.
- For security, your verified bank account is automatically disconnected in the Mesh system.
- You’ll receive an email notification explaining the reversal and next steps.
How can reversal be fixed?
Take the following steps to resolve the issue:
- If you did not authorize the debit, contact your bank immediately and request that they enable ACH debits for Mesh using the originator number 9832715984.
-
If you authorized the debit:
- Verify your bank’s ACH debit limit and make sure it’s high enough to cover the deposit amount.
- Reconnect your bank account in the Mesh platform once authorization or limits are updated.
How can customers prevent ACH reversals in the future?
Take the following steps to try to prevent ACH reversals:
- Confirm that Mesh is whitelisted or authorized in your bank account.
- Check your daily ACH limits with your bank before making a deposit.
- Keep your account information up to date within Mesh.
- Ensure sufficient funds are available at the time of debit.
